Transport Yourself  Past Event

Presented by Daniella Bassin & Lauren Levy

Private public transport is the overarching theme of the exhibition, touching on issues regarding safety, comfort, leisure, sustainability and accessibility. The event ‘Transport Yourself’ aims to prompt thoughts for Melbournians to reimagine how they get from A to B. A collection of data instigated the need for further investigations on how individuals feel using public transport with the urge for synergy between different modes of transport and the addition of personal security- whether COVID-19 related or due to other reasons.

Using mixed media, this event is an immersive exhibition offering an example of a new mode of transport to trigger new thought. The conceptual system merges knowledge from cars, trains and buses reshaping the future of commuting. Individuals have their own single-user pod which operates individually but in tandem with other commuters’ pods when desired. Designed to use existing infrastructure, only one mode of transport is necessary from a commuter’s starting location to final destination, eradicating the switch between car, train and tram. Rather individuals can attach to other pods along direct routes, switch off their pod power and be pulled along the journey, as a positive environmental impact.
