The city of 2030 will harness the energy within car batteries to power Melbourne during peak periods. In this project we transform multilevel car parks and make them a home for electric cars and their batteries. The vehicle to grid technology (V2G) automatically trades electricity from the battery’s, refilling during off peak periods and contributing to the grid at peak times.

These battery banks can also power performances within the car parks. The Design Week prototype stores the energy from the solar panels to power an immersive sound experience that gives energy storage a feeling.

This event is part of A New Normal, a project led by Finding Infinity that challenges Melbourne to become an entirely self-sufficient city. This is explored through a series of installations and talks by Melbourne’s leading architects and designers in a former office building at 130 Collins Street.
