Bendigo Pottery – Designer, Maker, Manufacturer Past Event
26th March until 26th April
Discover the process of Australia’s oldest working pottery and shared understanding of the materiality through their collaboration with The Good Plate. New joins iconic to create a contemporary reinterpretation of classic tableware that will keep pace with our evolving melting pot of Australian culture.
After spending many years developing their craft, Melbourne-based ceramic studio, Cone 11, saw there was an opportunity to use their knowledge and experience as studio potters to develop a high quality and affordable tableware range with a distinctly Australian aesthetic that could easily be made in large quantities to supply the hospitality industry. In an era where globally, many people are displaced and disconnected, they felt a responsibility to somehow provide help to others through food.
This led to two collaborations – the first with Bendigo Pottery who had the experience and resources to produce ceramic ware on a large scale, and the second with Scarf Community who help train refugees to find employment in the hospitality industry and to whom The Good Plate donates a percentage of all sales.
Established in 1858 and surviving two pandemics, two world wars and several global financial crises Bendigo Pottery has a 170-year connection and influence on the Australian Design landscape, and a quiet and enduring success in Australian manufacturing. A success based on innovation, quality, and productivity.
Here we discover the manufacturing process of Australia’s oldest working pottery and shared understanding of the materiality through their collaboration with The Good Plate.
