How can design shape life?

From product development to the new wave of system and service design thinking that emerged in the 1990s, this seminar will cover products such as the Britax Safe’n Sound Baby Capsule (RMIT Design Archives’s Robert Pataki collection), the CaT Pin (RMIT Health Transformation Lab in partnership with Bolton Clarke), and the use of  stretchable sensors for pre-diabetes, post-operative care and monitoring in aged care. In this seminar the panel and audience will consider ideas around product and service development with regard to health and wellbeing, to explore the new wave of design thinking that emerged in the 1990s, and contrast contemporary practices with examples from the past held in the RMIT Design Archives collections.

The panel includes:

Dr Leah Heiss, Design Futures, School of Design, RMIT University, and Co-Director, RMIT Wearables and Sensing Network;

Dr Simon Lockrey, Senior Lecturer, School of Design, RMIT University;

Emma Luke, Associate Lecturer, School of Design, College of Design and Social Context, RMIT University; and,

Phillip Slattery, Director S2A Design, Industrial Designer.
