Shining A Light: Illuminating a better world Past Event
The future presents unmitigated change. The role that light will play must not be undermined in this change due its potential to provoke empathy and a rebuilding of our community. Shining A Light brings together a group of professionals, thought-leaders and decision-makers to explore the profound and direct impact of lighting in various inspiring contexts of their respective fields, for a changed world.
The evening is hosted by Est Lighting and welcomes lighting designers, architects, urbanists, lighting manufacturers, politicians and interested citizens to listen to, and share, experiences and visions for the vitality of light and its significant application to ensure a better world.
The event concludes with a lighting installation experience.
Ian Dryden, Principal industrial designer, City Of Melbourne
Ian’s task since 1987 has been to program, design, implement and market street furniture and temporary facilities for the City of Melbourne. Ian’s major task has been the design and coordination of the street furniture, temporary fixtures, kiosks, toilets, decoration, lighting systems and pedestrian information signage for the City’s master plan. Ian’s work has received both popular and professional recognition. He is a contributing member of the City’s Urban Design team, who has won a number of AIA, AILA, IES awards and International Industrial Design awards for the cities projects.
Nicci Green, Creative director, Articolo
Nicci Green is the Founder and Design Director of the Australian-made hand-crafted architectural lighting brand, Articolo. With 25 years’ experience in the design sector, Nicci established her career as an editor and stylist for the award-winning Vogue Entertaining. Nicci will inspire with her personal stories how decorative lighting will continue to play a vital role in our future well-being.
Tim Hunt, Lighting leader, Arup
With a background in industrial design, Tim Hunt leads Arup’s lighting team in Melbourne. Tim likes to innovate and challenge convention to find new ways of approaching problems, through creativity, research, testing and embracing new technologies. Using design thinking, Tim has a desire to put people and their experiences of light at the centre of every strategic decision, continuously improving how humans interact with light.
Alicia Lynch, Interior Design Director, Hachem
With more than 22 years experience as a professional interior design specialising in high-end hospitality projects, Alicia’s portfolio of work encapsulates global interior design at its best. She has worked on four continents from the colorful beaches of Miami to the coast of Southern California, the tropics of Phuket, the dreams of Macau. With the recent completion of Melbourne’s W Hotel, Alicia continues to push the boundaries of conceptual interior design. Alicia’s appreciation and understanding of lighting’s ability to transform and create a sense of place will provide the grounding for her inspiring insight into illuminating a better world.
Gerardo Pavon, Lighting designer, The Flaming Beacon
Gerardo is a passionate lighting designer with a background in architecture and design. Gerardo will share his latest research which focuses on social inclusion in our communities based on sustainable and accessible lighting solutions.
Nimrod Weis, Founder and creative director, ENESS
Melbourne artist and designer Nimrod Weis is the founder behind ENESS, a studio of multidisciplinary designers exploring the intersection between the virtual and the physical world to create harmonious experiences between humans, technology and light in environments. Nimrod has been at the forefront in the field of interactive art and new media design over the last 20 years with work exhibited worldwide in museums of modern art, to the streets of Mumbai. Nimrod will share tales and unexpected curiosities built upon 20 years of digital art and light.
