During this time of public health emergency, good communication is fundamental, but some of Australia’s COVID-19 comms to non-English speaking communities has been poorly translated. Miscommunication like this disempowers communities who are particularly vulnerable in times of emergency.
Re asked designers to translate instructional COVID-19 information into their own language, or their collaborator’s language, to create a poster that visually engages their community.
With 18 posters featured in the exhibition, spanning 14 different languages, we hope to highlight that the issue of mistranslation predates the pandemic and that good communication is vital in building an empathetic future for all.
