reFrame: Melbourne’s future mobility Past Event
Join our presenters as the Mobility Design Lab hosts an interactive session considering what the future of Melbourne, or any city, might be like post-private car. We’ll be looking positively at the opportunities such a future may present, as well as developing ways of meeting the challenges it presents.
The private car provides unprecedented individual mobility. It has however led to consequences on a population, and global scale. But what alternatives are there? This workshop and panel discussion poses a hypothetical situation asking participants to consider how mobility needs would be served without the private car. What does a city without carparks look like? What happens when we gain back some of the 30% of our city’s surface area which is given over to private surface transport? Using a desktop prototype city, we will investigate these ideas to discover the possibilities, problems, and pathways towards an alternative, plausible – designed – future.
This program is ticketed (subject to availability) and alternatively online via Zoom.
