FUTURE HOMES: RETHINKING OUR APPROACH TO HOUSING A NATION Past Event

Presented by Professor Alan Pert (Director, MSD) and Theo Blankley

Incorporating current research on historical migration patterns, changes in demography, legislation, planning and construction, and their impact on housing typology, ‘Future Homes’ parallels these past examples with present investigations. Looking at contemporary research undertaken by IBA Melbourne, the Affordable Housing Hallmark Initiative, OVGA and DELWP in the Future Homes Industry Competition, and the Future Homes Student Competition, the first stage of the exhibition will present this research and output contrasted with historical precedents, antagonists, and prepare the viewer for Stage Two of the exhibition.

Launching late April, Stage Two will expand this interrogation with floor talks, speaker events, panels and student engagement in collaboration with industry, government and academic practitioners who discuss their proposals, approaches and research to the key drivers of the Design Week theme – community, care and climate.
